Session 1 Information and Space

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Holger Schnädelbach, Senior Research Fellow, Mixed Reality Lab, University of Nottingham

Session Chairs: Andrea Berardi and Derek Jones

The relationship between information and space from a human perspective is a fundamental one. The meaning we give to (or take from) our physical environment informs our self, society and culture - and it has done so throughout history.

We now overlay these physical spaces with additional data rich information to help us communicate, navigate and even understand the places we inhabit. This session will explore this relationship from a variety of perspectives – ranging from the cultural or conceptual meanings we encode in places, through to the design of a new ecology of mixed digital and physical environments.

Beyond physical spaces exist information landscapes that we are only starting to recognise. Information theory will have an important part to play in our evolving information spaces.
